The European Parents Association (EPA) works on the basis of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, with special focus on ensuring that the rights of parents enshrined in Articles 5 and 18 are provided for in all decision making, and brings the needs, concerns and demands of parents into policy making at all levels in Europe.
To achieve its goal EPA:
- Participates at national, European and international events organised by international institutions such as the EU and the Council of Europe, governments, research bodies, and non-governmental organisations dealing with topics relevant for parents such as formal education, health care, or planned legislation curbing the rights of parents.
- Participates at local, regional, national, and European public consultations, policy making processes, and consultative fora using information collected from parents.
- Advocates for parents’ rights and their support needs by bringing new evidence and amplifing parent voices around current topics related to parenting and the role of parents as the responsible people for bringing up children with special focus on all areas of child rights, including education.
- Participates at EU, government, and privately funded projects that are relevant for parents, especially ones that aim for better professional support for parenting and the acknowledgement of parent knowledge.
- EPA closely collaborates with Parents International in research, advocacy, and training.
